girls

Overview

Postgraduate study in Development Studies and Culture Change will address the diverse theories and relationships that seek analyse and/or bring about targeted change in the lives of people around the world. It will offer students an exciting combination of units focusing on, and creating expertise in, the ways in which development operates as a paramount trope within international political, economic and cross-cultural relations and the crucial role culture change plays in the opportunities and choices facing people in diverse parts of the world.

The Departments of Anthropology and Human Geography offer a Masters, Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate in Development Studies and Culture Change.

The aim of this program is to provide training for recent graduates and professionals who seek to develop their expertise and work in a wide range of fields related to development assistance, international aid, community development, and change management in cross-cultural settings. The coherence of the program relies on the strong cross-disciplinary foundations of both Anthropology and Human Geography, which produce a clear focus on the cultural and geographical dimensions of development.

Course structure

The MDevStCult requires the successful completion of 32 postgraduate credit points, or 8 units. The Diploma is made up of 24cp (6 units) and the Certificate 12cp (3 units).

Most units are provided by the Departments of Anthropology and Human Geography. Students may also take a certain amount of electives from other disciplines (no more than 25% of the total credit points, i.e. two units in the Masters and 1 unit in the PG Diploma). These electives must come from the approved list (see the study patterns listed in the Handbook)

The full structure of the degrees, including unit descriptions, can be found in the University Handbook. Click here for the Masters, the PG Diploma and PG Certificate.
